It is in between the 2015 ITTF African Cup that Omar Assar of Egypt will be marking his 24th birthday anniversary in Yaoundé, Cameroon and the 2015 Lagos Open champion will want to celebrate it in grand style with the title.

In the continent, Omar Assar has established himself as a player to reckon and as the highest ranked African player in the world; the Egyptian would love to add the African Cup title to his retinue of laurels.

“I think it is an important tournament for me as I have never won it before so my preparation for the new season including African Cup will be that I am going to make some short and intensive camps and add some ITTF World Tours in between to be able to analyse my performance. I expect that I will fit physically and mentally for the championship to show improvement in my performance,” he said.

To clinch the title in Cameroon, Omar Assar understands he will face a Herculean task. “There are many good players especially in this kind of tournament and it is a platform where the best in Africa will compete. There is no doubt that Egypt and Nigeria are the toughest opponents,” he added.

He however, expressed optimism that, “I love to be crowned as champion of Africa in Yaoundé for the first time. I will say it is all about the level of focus and endurance during the competition but I hope it will be an Egyptian player that will win the title.”

On Aruna Quadri, Omar Assar said: “Aruna is a good player and can play in a high level tournament like this and I wish him a good luck in the competition.”
