Having put the second place finish at the ITTF Africa Senior Cup in Cameroon behind him, Aruna Quadri’s mission at the 2015 African Games is to secure a place in next year’s Olympic Games in Brazil.

  The 2014 ITTF Star Player who moved from 56 to 43 in the September ranking released by ITTF is full of confidence that Nigeria will surely weather the storm in the Central African nation when the table tennis event serves off on September 10.

  “I am hoping for the best at the African games because this is going to be my second appearance at the games. I will be very happy if I can do so much better than the previous edition in 2011. . My targets are as follows; that is I will like to do better than 2011 Games. I will also be very happy if I can qualify for Olympic Games in Brazzaville. I seriously believe that I can win against all players in Africa,” he said.

  With the team selected by Nigeria for the games coupled with the engagement of the German technical adviser, Martin Adomeit, he said: “I think nothing is impossible for Team Nigeria in Brazzaville because we have been preparing in the last two months and I seriously believe that this preparation is enough to conquer Africa. In short, we have a bright chance of winning more medals and I know Nigeria will surprise everyone in Brazzaville. I must also sure that in all events Nigeria is capable of winning medals.”

  He however, admitted that it would be an easy ride for the West Africa side. It’s going to be very difficult for all teams because the standard is really improving in Africa and I am expecting a tougher challenge from all participants.”

  Unlike in 2011 where Egypt dominated Nigeria, Aruna Quadri said: “I think it’s going to be very difficult for Egypt to dominate as Nigeria is fully ready for the big war coming up in Brazzaville.”

  He described the introduction of new Chinese players by the host – Congo Brazzaville as an avenue to improve the lots of the game in the continent. “This is going to improve the level in Africa because Chinese or no Chinese, we are prepared for all teams,” he added.
