Countries from East Africa region will in December converge in the Ocean Island of Mauritius for the Eastern Africa Table Tennis Championship which serves as qualification for the 2018 ITTF Africa Top 16 Cup in Kenya as well as African Senior Championships.
Teams from the region will assemble in Mauritius for the tournament cum camp as part of the efforts by the region to raise the standard of the sport.

According to the President of Mauritius Table Tennis Association (MTTA), O Basanta Vimal Lala, the participation of teams from the region would surely help the development of table tennis in the region.

Aside the tournament, a training camp to be handled by French coach and ITTF expert, Miss Lory Phai Phag will be organized as well as Level One Coaching Course.

“This competition will be used as qualification for the Senior African Cup of next year (2018) and coaching course Level 1 is open to all Eastern African Countries,” Lala said.

The MTTA boss, who is also the Tournament Director, said in the prospectus for the event that the training camp and the coaching course would hold on December 8 to 13 while the three-day tournament holds on December 13 to 15 at the Beau Bassin Sports Complex in Mauritius.

Six events (team, doubles and singles in men and women categories) will be competed for at the tournament while the finalists in the singles (men and women) will qualify for the ITTF Africa Top 16 Cup in March 2018 in Kenya.
