For retaining his African title as well as becoming the first African para table tennis player to be featuring in five Paralympic Games, Egypt’s Mohamed Sameh Eid Saleh has been nominated by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) for the June 2019 Athlete of the Month alongside four others – Nur Syahidah Alim of Singapore (Archery), Johannes Floors of Germany (Athletics), Raimundo Mendes of Brazil (Blind Football) and Antoni Ponce of Spain (Swimming).

To win his ninth African title, Mohamed Samed Eid Saleh’s had to endure against Nigeria’s Isau Ogunkunle in the men’s class 4 category to earn his spot on the national squad in what could be his fifth Paralympic Games.

The African Championships were the second regional event in 2019 to offer qualifying spots for next year’s Paralympics, which saw Egypt clinching eight of the 14 events in singles while the team event was dominated by Nigeria which claimed two of the three titles at stake.

According to IPC, public are expected to vote for the winner of June’s Allianz Athlete of the on www.paralympic.org.
The public has until 12:00 (CEST) on Friday (12 July) to vote for the athlete they want to be the Allianz Athlete of the Month for June 2019 via the International Paralympic Committee homepage.
