Since assumption of office as the President of the Benin Federation of Table Tennis (FBTT), Ferdinand Sounou has brought vibrancy and growth to the sport in the West African nation.

In 2018, several development programmes were staged while Benin Republic also featured in the African Championships in Mauritius with his sole representative – Monday Olabiyi finishing among the top 10 players in the men’s singles.

However, Ferdinand Sounou is ready to raise the bar in 2019.

According to a report monitored on Matin Libre online, despite the difficulties, FBTT has accomplished its mission.

According to Ferdinand Sounou, 2018 has been a very positive year.

“First of all at the national level, all the planned activities were mainly carried out beginning with the elections. We have been able to organise the biggest international competition which is the Chinese New Year Tournament, the initiation and improvement camps, the national championships edition 2018, the international Blaise Soglo tournament. In addition, we regularly held the meetings of the Executive Committee and the Ordinary General Assembly at the end of the season, “said Ferdinand Sounou.

“At the international level, Benin has returned to the continent by competing at the African championships in Mauritius. In the tournament, out of 64 players entered in the men’s singles, Beninese player is ranked 9th, “he said.

A satisfied Ferdinand Sounou said: “I am happy with this record despite the time it has taken to resolve the election disputes. I am already, looking ahead of 2019 with a lot of activities in place. For 2019, we have a lot of activities to do both nationally and internationally. It would be a question of much more promoting age grade categories, “said Ferdinand Sounou.

He however, thanked the Benin Republic authorities at various levels for their support. As for the table tennis family, Ferdinand Sounou demands more support and to gather around the little white ball.
