A former national player and a renowned advertising practitioner in the Indian Ocean Island of Mauritius, Vimal Basanta Lala has been elected the President of Mauritius Table Tennis Association (MTTA) at a special general assembly held on Wednesday December 21.
The new President took over from Mrs Ashita BEENESSREESINGH, who was also named the Secretary of the Association.
Vimal Basanta Lala was the tournament director at the 2015 African Junior Championships hosted by MTTA and his contribution to the successful staging of the competition cannot be underestimated.
Lala represented Mauritius at the 1992 Francophone Youth Games in Paris and despite quting the sport at 18, when he went to further his studies in Canada, Vimal Basanta Lala has been part of the sport while he has also used his influence to attract some sponsors to the sport in Mauritius.
For four years, he will paddle the canoe of MTTA alongside other members which include; Vice President- Mr Ian TSE TAN YAN; Secretary- Mrs Ashita BEENESSREESINGH; Assistant Secretary- Mr Charles CHAN TUNG; Treasurer- Mr Kam Young LI FAP KIEN; Assistant Treasurer- Mr Oumesh Chaund GOPALL; PRO- Mr Philippe HAO THYN VOON; Member- Miss Nushrat GUNNOO and Co-opted Member- Mr Rajessen DESSCANN.
